Southern Shrimp and Grits

Description:

Shrimp and grits is an iconic comfort dish in most parts of the South. Shrimp takes on the rich flavor of bacon, along with green onions, mushrooms and celery. Hot sauce gives it a tangy kick that you'll enjoy. The creamy grits are made perfect with cheddar and Parmesan cheese. For true Southern authenticity, be sure to serve this with sweet tea. Stovetop - 20-25 minutes if thawed, 30-35 minutes if frozen.

Cooking Instructions

Preparation: Thaw completely. If frozen or partially frozen, add 5 minutes cooking time for sauce mixture.

Cooking Instructions:  Shrimp: Spray a large skillet with non-stick coating and heat over medium heat. Add bacon and cook until crispy. Remove bacon pieces and drain bacon drippings, leaving about 1 tablespoon in skillet. Add shrimp and sauté for about 3 minutes. Add content of sauce bag to skillet and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 8-10 minutes or until shrimp is cooked. Grits: Pour contents of grits bag into saucepan. Add 4 cups of water (2 cups for regular entrée) and bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer 15 minutes, stirring frequently, or until water is absorbed. Serve shrimp over grits.

Suggested Sides:  Spinach salad, Sweet tea and Pecan Pie
